Product Showcase: Star Wars Stormtrooper Plugs

Thursdays, or "Throwback Thursday" as I call them here on the Blog, are the day to look back at stuff that... well... that *needs* looking back at because it's so good!

Today I'm "throwing back" to the first plug design we sold: Stormtrooper plugs from the awesome Star Wars.

As you can see, they're a bold and simple design which makes them stand out so well. And, of course, they have an awesome full Stormtrooper helmet on so they're a must for fans of the sci-fi blockbuster!

Star Wars Stormtrooper Helmet Plug

They come as a two part type which is internally threaded so the front of the plug screws into the back. They're made of black acrylic with a white front and white Stormtrooper helmet logo.

Available in 6mm - 40mm on our "sister site" that is the home to all our Film, TV & Logo plugs at an amazing £3 per plug.

They're that cool I even named my puppy, Stormie, after them and he proudly wears one that I modified as his collar ID tag!

What's your favourite "Throwback" product we sell or old favourite in your Sick Plugs collection?

It's Monday! "Moan Monday"

And you know what bugs me the most!?

"Should/would/could of": It's "have"
"Defiantly": That's "definitely" not the way to spell it!
"They're", "There" & "Their": No words for this! They're completely different words.
"On route": Not to France by the look of it! I think you mean "en route"?

Anyway, I shouldn't complain as they don't really effect me given that their the same difference.
Irregardless, I do find them very annoying. I sometimes find myself lay in bed loosing sleep over it.
Do you to?

It's *really* difficult to write like that! How many mistakes do you see?

"Stuff Saturdays" were mentioned...

You know how I was telling you in my previous post about how I planned to "timetable" topics for the Blog?

This was my description for a typical Saturday post:

"Stuff Saturday": General stuff while everything else has been about work.
I love good food. I own old Ford cars. I collect watches. I have a cute puppy. I'm a huge Formula One fan.
Saturdays tend to be the day I let work take a bit more of a back seat for a day so I'll share a bit about "non-work" things with you."

Pretty accurate for today then!

If you didn't already know, this weekend marks one of the most exciting motor-racing events of the year; the F1 Monaco Grand Prix. So far today I've caught up with repeats of both Practice Sessions and watched Qualifying live. Bit disappointed to see that none of my favourite four drivers, Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button, did particularly well but here's hoping the race tomorrow brings better results for them. *Warning* (Spoiler: They qualified in 2nd, 3rd and 15th and 12th respectively.)

What makes the Monaco GP so exciting? Well, other than the fact that drivers are racing round the tiny streets of a luxurious Principality at speeds of up to 180mph and approaching almost blind corners with steel fences about 2" away from their wheels while mixing it up with a downhill hairpin bend and by entering and exiting a very fast tunnel section... nothing really ;)

I've liked F1 for as long as I can remember. I can't ever see that stopping. Long live the Monaco GP and may all who enter her stay safe!

I mentioned I have a cute puppy too? He's called Stormie and he's a 2 year old Chihuahua. If you're as sad as me you can check out more of what Stormie gets up to on my Instagram, where he has his own hashtags:

Yes, I know, right!? :D

This weekend he has a friend here to stay; his 10 year old "cousin", Goochie, a Toy Poodle.
Judging from their behaviour so far today they're all about the "lazy weekend" too.

I'm OK with this!

Going to enjoy the rest of a lazy day with these guys while looking forward to what will hopefully be a cool race tomorrow afternoon.

Who do you want to win?

Here it goes, a little something like this... A "Timetable"

Sort of came up with this "Timetable of events" while discussing on Facebook what to post on here.

Obviously as a Blog it will have random posts about anything that comes into my mind at any time or stuff I think people might find interesting. And food porn, of course!
But, primarily, I'm going to try and stick to this basic schedule of posts:

"Moan Monday": Rants!
Everyone hates Mondays! Everyone has a moan or a rant they want to vent. I often use my personal Facebook profile as an outlet but I figured this was a good place too.
Sometimes I'm a very happy lady and have nothing to moan about. If that's the case you can expect a random "product insight".

"Top Seller Tuesday": Info and photos of the current top seller(s) or product that's attracting the most attention.
I regularly add new products to the Sick Plugs line-up but also have a lot of "long standing" designs too. Sometimes there's one product or design that seems to attract more attention and sales or get "Liked" more on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
I'll tell you about it here and hopefully you'll see why.

"Weird Wednesday": All sorts of weird stuff that's happened to me or that I saw online.
We all love "weird"! Whether it's strange drawing requests I get with orders, odd questions I get asked by customers or even "non Sick Plugs" related stuff off the internet, I'll try and do weird in the best possible way.

"Throwback Thursday": A look back at old products, previous rants, favourite foods or memories.
Because sometimes some things just have to be revisited!

"Follow Friday": Articles about people that you may or may not have heard of but should be checking out anyway.
We all love to discover, right!? Here you'll find a mix of info about all sorts of people, companies, places, bands and plenty of other stuff that I think is worthy of checking out, for whatever reason.

"Stuff Saturday": General stuff that's been in my life while everything else has been about work.
I love good food. I own old Ford cars. I collect watches. I have a cute puppy. I'm a huge Formula One fan.
Saturday tends to be the day I let work take a bit more of a back seat for a day so I'll share a bit about "non work" things with you.

"Summary Sunday": A lazy day. Time to look back over the last week and think about what might be coming up over the next few days...
Also, the perfect time to sit and read without distraction so the plan is to post about topics that might be affecting a few of us. I know many of my friends and customers have all sorts of problems going on in their life (Find me someone that doesn't!) ranging from anxiety attacks and depression to gender, sexuality or body image issues. I'm going to try and post stuff here that might help in some way, even if it's only a "meme" that inspires you or makes you laugh about whatever you have going on.
In time there'll be input from other people who might be going through a similar thing and want to share their thoughts or experience.

So there we have it. A basic idea of what you can expect should you choose to read or follow.
Let's see how it goes.

How did "Sick Plugs" come to be?

You might have seen my Facebook profile and I've been talking about "Where to start with my Blog!?"
Well, a few of my customers suggested I go back to the beginning and tell people how Sick Plugs came to be.

So here we are:

For about 3 years I'd been "between jobs" and spending a lot of time in a local tattoo studio.
The lady who owned and ran that studio soon became a friend... became my boss.

She gave me a job as her "Business Manager" which involved everything from Reception/Front of house duties to, eventually, learning to do Piercings.

Obviously, like most people in any job, some days were awesome and others, not so good. Over the 5 years I worked there I came to notice a few "common things";

1) People are rubbish at deciding what they want to get as a tattoo.
2) People think it's OK to bring a baby or child in to get their ears pierced. It isn't.
3) People often left disappointed because we never had any cool plugs, tunnels or body jewellery to sell them.

It was 3) that quickly became the most significant.

I lost count of the amount of "cool alt kids" that would come in, look in the jewellery display cabinets and say "Have you got any new plugs in? I'm after something cool!"
Every time, sadly, the answer was a "No, sorry, just the same clip-art stuff we had last week."

So, I spoke to my boss several times and mentioned something ought to be done about it as there was "a ready-made audience"... Each time the reply was "I don't think it would work", "it would be too much to invest", "too risky" or "why would anyone buy from us when they can get stuff on eBay?"

I'm not a negative person. These responses drove me mad and led to massive frustration.

In an attempt to change the situation, and at her request, I designed and built her an "online shop" where people could buy any item of body jewellery you can think of. And basic clip-art plugs.
Obviously, and rather ironically, no-one bought anything because it was a minefield of choice and didn't sell anything "cool" and the basic stuff we stocked hundreds of was all cheaper on eBay...

Again, "We should try selling less and specialise in cool plugs and tunnels" was my suggestion.
And again refused.

Until one morning in October 2012, when tempers were frayed in the studio over something completely unconnected, and there was once again a (frustrated!) discussion about online selling. A difference of opinion outed itself again and, rather than sit in my chair and discuss it for the nth time, I stood up, told her I'd "Had enough", thanked her for everything she'd done for me and went and got my coat.

I'd just quit my job!

What to do next!?

Well, there was still not enough cool plugs and tunnels being sold. Someone had to sort that out.
It's now just over 2 1/2 years later and Sick Plugs is a name a lot of people know.

I must be doing something right!

Wednesday 20 May 2015

Here we are then...

Hey guys!

Been meaning to write this thing for a long time now. Essentially what you'll find is even more of me, Tori, the woman who owns a plug company, talking about and sharing with you the things I like, the things I do and, sometimes, the things I sell.

I'll try to make it a cool place to be and where you might find something useful amongst the puppy pics, foodporn and swearing. Did I mention there'll be "rants"?

There will even be product reviews of the things I sell. If that's not too boring for you?

Sit comfortably.
Strap yourself in.
Check in often.

Please.
